PALO ALTO, Calif. - August 29, 2011 - Navitas, the largest provider of Education and Training in Australia, today announced the selection of Pearson's Versant™ English Placement Test to evaluate English speaking, listening, reading and writing skills across all of its programs. Each year, Navitas helps more than 36,000 students, teachers, travellers, migrants and refugees develop their English language skills for further study, work, and life at locations in Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, United States and Singapore.

The Versant English Placement Test automatically evaluates the English speaking, listening, reading and writing skills of non-native English speakers, using speech processing technology and Pearson's unique implementation of latent semantic analysis. The Versant English Placement Test is built using criteria developed by expert linguists. The Versant testing system, based on the patented Ordinate® technology and Knowledge Analysis Technologies (KAT) engine, has been extensively field tested and validated with reference to the most qualified human evaluators of language proficiency, fluency and pronunciation. The Versant testing system automatically scores each test, making a detailed score report available within minutes of being submitted.
The Versant testing system provides Navitas with a specifically designed in-house test to place its students in programs offered by Navitas English, the University Pathway Division, and Workforce. The test will be used to evaluate students seeking entry into a Navitas program, where a high stakes test is not required for visa purposes. The use of one test with objective and unbiased scoring will provide an opportunity to track student placement and progress across all Navitas divisions.
